Laurent has said that Darlin' never really broke up and there was never really an official beginning either, it was more or less just some kids hanging around playing and occasionally making music and that he eventually just wasn't a part of it any more as Thomas and Guy-Man became interested in electronic music. A British journalist named Dave Jennings reviewed the compilation in Melody Maker magazine where he dubbed Darlin's two tracks "daft punky thrash." By the time of the review, Thomas and Guy-Man had shifted their sights into making electronic music but Laurent (the 3rd member of Darlin') wasn't into the rave scene like them and ended up joining his brother's band which would later become Phoenix. A few months after that, in April of 1993, "Shimmies in Super 8" was finally released. A few months later in January of 1993, Thomas turned 18 and he used the money he received to buy some electronic music equipment. They were in awe at how people would go to these raves and enjoy music that they had never heard before, unlike rock concerts which they found boring in comparison. It was a completely different atmosphere than what Thomas and Guy-Man had ever experienced. The first rave they attended was called "Armistice" and was held on the roof of the Pompidou Centre in Paris on November 10th, 1992. The compilation would not be released until April of 1993 and, in that time, Thomas and Guy-Man became immersed in the rave scene that had begun to invade Paris. In the Fall of 1992, Darlin' managed to convince Stereolab to put two of their recordings onto an upcoming 7" double pack compilation called "Shimmies in Super 8". Darlin' recorded four known songs and played only a handful of gigs. The 3 teenagers named their indie band Darlin' after a Beach Boys track of the same name. Laurent Brancowitz found the ad and on January 1st, 1992 he met up with Guy-Man and some time later met up with Thomas. After a few years they wished to be in rock group so in late 1991 Guy-Manuel put up a flyer in a Paris record store called Danceteria looking for a guitarist. The two quickly found that they shared a similar interest in music and cinema. Daft Punk (Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo) met in Paris, France in 1987 when they were each around 12 years old.
